Not sure it's always a great route as the smaller ovens are going to struggle to get a perfect profile for a consistent result, especially on bigger boards with higher layer counts and mixed technology. You may want to take a quick look at a batch va

Just a comment on the Heller 1500. We had 3 at a previous workplace where we never made the Pb-free transition (this was early 2000's). The ovens we had were not designed for and were never used for Pb-free processing yet every one of them had all o

I am most familiar with Heller (10 yrs. of 1088 4 zone - 1800 8 zone ovens) and find them to be very reliable. Other Manufacturers may have five zone ovens on the used market. (I used Petlock as an example because you could get data sheets/specs from

Yes, it is time and temperature, but it is also speed and distance. Even though you can run a longer machine faster, the boards have a longer distance to travel and you do too, so the cycle time per board may not improve be reduced as much as you th

An 8 zone oven will give you better thermal control over the whole process. It's useful for lead-free soldering, or for boards with varying thermal loads/shadowing, etc. You can make a 5 zone work for lead free, provided the boards don't have signi

Hi everyone, Our QC manager is bugging me about calibrating the TC readings on our reflow ovens. I keep telling him that doing a regular reflow profiling with a mole is sufficient to see if the oven temperature are normal. The manuals state that TC c

Ken, thanks for your answer, it is much better presented than what I was fed by our qc. By "calibrating TCs" I meant the readings the controller is displaying on the screen. So that would be the converter that we would check and calibrate. Thank you

Hi Charly, For batch ovens there is no discussion. For inline loading interval depends on the oven you use, the amount of heat the PCB takes out of the zone and the capability of the oven to get it back in. The approximate time for the PCB to stay i

Charley: As Wolfgang says, you're unlikely to be able to put enough (average) boards in a modern reflow oven to be able to thermally load the machine. Ta Dave F
