I have a component manufacturer that is using Sn/Ag/Cu plating on chip caps and resistors. Does anyone have any information on compatability with Sn/Pb paste. Are any changes in profile required? Is the reliability of the solder joint at risk? Tony

Thanks for your input. What would you say is the biggest defect condition you see with 0402's? ANy difference with 0402 caps vs. resistors? Dan

John brings up a good point. We have seen that problem with an axial inserter. Why someone would put SMT caps on bottom and TH resistors on top is beyond me but it but we do see it.

we have a new ersa ews500 wave machine and are experiencing difficulty in profiling for lead free. particular issue is reaching 110c preheat for large TH electrolitic caps while maintaining 110-170c on 1/4 watt resistors in same area

Cmiller: Includes, caps diodes IC resistors, zener TR (does that help?) Just getting my feet wet here.

mid chip solder balls we had that trouble for awhile we went from a 8 mil thick stencil to 6 mil stencil and did some home plate style of cut outs in the stencil for the 1206 caps and resistors it seemed to fix our mid chip solder balls

Most likely either profile or I was thinking a cap! resistors are to thin to make the part stand up hehehe just a joke. Do not follow the advice of weighting part, that is ridiculous, poster of that, if you have never done BGA before please do not

I did my directory by using the Fuji Part Data Directory. You can request one through Fuji and have a copy for all programmers. For instance a 3216 resistor is named RECT3216060 or your electrolytic caps ALEC4343540. Hopefully that is what you are as

We had this same problem several years ago. The caps and resistors were cracking when we snapped the boards apart. We now use a pizza cutter style depanelizer. A couple of manufacturers that I know of are CAB and Fancort. I hope this helps.

Passive components are the one's that don't gain power on the output. The one's that do are called active components. Diodes, resistors, caps and inductors are examples of passive. Transistor is active component.
