Problem with shielding component

Electronics Forum | Wed Jan 10 09:57:08 EST 2007 | realchunks

Shields can carry a large thermal mass. If you ever tried removing one in repair, you'd find out how hard they can be. Also, they do deflect air flow. So in a convection oven, your air flow will be turbulent, which also will affect your reflow.

All, We have ran a few revisions of a New Product which is a tracking device using satellite navigation. The protos went well but now they have added a shielding can. We place 2 of these to cover the Frontend of the PCB. The test guys are having d

Is the failure just out of tolerance or is it non functioning? For tolerance problem, compare the x-rays of the good and bad units. It will take a very high resolution x-ray to spot the differences. Changes in capacitance values can occur based on

Not unless it's a case of "the only difference is..." What I mean by that is more than once I've been told the only difference in a new rev is one component or one change. But the truth was that was the only reason for the change, and in fact there

Recommendations on Solder Scavenging Systems

Does anyone have any experience in using solder scavenging systems? We have very tight land areas for RF shields (nearest component can be 2mm away in some cases). We are aware that both SRT and AIRVAC have such systems. Thanks! BWET

Removing RFI / RF Shields

Electronics Forum | Mon Jul 17 20:22:54 EDT 2000 | Dave F

Please give some suggestions on removing RFI / RF shields ... PTH Shields: Removing PTH RFI / RF shields is as straight forward as the next PTH component. Small SMT Shields: Removing small SMT RFI / RF shields is fairly straight forward, providin

RF Shields

You should tell your customer that they're very nice people, but the purpose of RF shields is reduce RF emissions, not to be a air or gas tight enclosure. The requirements of hermeticity are wholly different than those of RF shielding. Do they want

MLCC cracks due to RF shield

Electronics Forum | Thu Feb 12 16:59:11 EST 2015 | emjasaph

We have a board that has an RF shield on one side and ceramic capacitors on the other side. The side with the capacitors is reflowed first, then the other side is reflowed. We have been experiencing cracked capacitors in these boards. My guess is tha

Removing RFI / RF Shields

Bob: Techniques for removing RFI / RF shields vary according to the size and type of shield. Removing: * PTH RFI / RF shields is as straight forward as the next heat sinking PTH component, often using a solder bath or fountain. * Small SMT RFI /

The first time I was faced with this it was on a night shift training M ?????????? and we used a standard hot air rework system with no under board heating. The trick is to keep the air flow low and you can remove the parts. Most people use too highe
