If the tombstoning is thermal (occuring during reflow) then try slightly reducing the stencil apertures so there is less the paste on the pads, reducing the forces acting on the component. Also take a look at the cooldown profile & making it more

For low voltage and current applications there are also some nice SMT conductive foam pads that come in on tape. http://www.gore.com/MungoBlobs/621/772/SMT_Grounding_Pads.pdf I think Laird also do something similar. We place them with no problem.

Hi Larry, Picture a old lady with a set of knitting needles with leads attached to them, pressing the needles into different points of the PCB (pads, test points or component leads) and measuring resistance, inductance, waveforms etc between these p

Are you using specific tooling for each part, or just generic? If so it could be pushing down at an angle and slightly tearing the PCB. We use the same style press as you but make custom fixtures to fit each connector and hold each PCB tight.

A 200% + increase in load time certainly erases > any thoughts of efficiency in my mind. We have tried the Visker Electric feeders out (Yamaha & Juki)and they are nice and smooth, with a faster recovery rate, also adjustable pitch. However, with

80 micrometres (0.08mm) or 80 mil (2mm)? Smallest I've seen reliably printed is around 0.2mm x 0.4mm (01005 pad) and 0.2mm x 0.2mm CSP pad, not seen anything dispensed below 0.35ish, but we are not cutting edge.

Ok, that's small - I think you may need a special semi-conductor printer for this - positional accuracy on a "normal" SMT printer is no more than 20 micrometres from memory. In my semiconductror fab days we were printing with a positional accuracy

Usually it's the motor start caps blowing on the motors - take one off a failed motor and check the type strapped to the side - our older ones use these: http://hk.element14.com/genteq/27l571/capacitor-polypropylene-pp-film/dp/1735893?ost=27L571&se

To be fair, making lots of the same PCBAs of the same relatively low thermal mass is not particulary challenging for any of the major manufacturers if you have enough heating and cooling zones. Probably key for you would be local support for servic

We use a place in China that refurbs them cheaply, PM me and I'll send you the details. Did we have a little feeder crash by chance?
