Use off cuts from the reels & just buy splices. It's how i've done prototype jobs before switching away from cut tape & part reels etc. Although if this is a forever ending cycle it can be very painful.

I have tried cover tape extenders from a multitude of sources and they all seem to be made of the same plastic. I think your best solution might be to splice on carrier tape extenders instead, these can come with conventional cover tape already fitte
