Are you using water based flux? Any preheaters on the SS machine?

Hi Pete, It is an alcohol based NC flux. The machine does have quartz preheaters. We are preheating to the temp specified by the flux. Thanks Chris

Ah, yes...the solvents. I'll bet with SS machines vs. WS machines there is way less dwell time at preheat so you don't evap enough solvents. Do any of these SS machines use force-convection preheats or are they and IR type?

Hi Taint, Both machines work OK. The big thing you may over look is pre-heat. Things like flux spatter/boil tend to come into play if you don't pre-heat. Change over, ease of programming, and service are also things to think of.

Check out ERSA's Ecoselect 350. You can have 2 solder pots in the machine. 1 for SN/PB and 1 for Lead Free. It's a little more than $ than the others, but its a production machine! Not a toy.
