I know the approximate shelf life for good and OK storage of ENIG and Ag boards but I do not know what these times are like for HASL. Can anyone help me out here. Thanks.

Hi Kim Dun take any risk in delamination bcoz u will be the person to answer for being it. So, we do bake all Pcbs, which have 3months of shelf life, b4 startin any process although they are still inside the factory packs.

Tyco had a good read on the shelf life of tin plating and the different variables involved in determining it's shelf life. http://www.tycoelectronics.com/documentation/whitepapers/pdf/Keeping_Tin_Solderable.pdf

Ideally, shelf life should be twelve months from application, but not all OSP's are the same so check manufacturer's instructions

In my case most of the PCBs are OSP finishing and worst case of MSD component on bottom side is level 3 (168 hours). You mean that PCB shelf life with bottom side assembled shoud be 84 hours?

Does isopropyl alcohol have a shelf life? I have looked at many manufactures and have not found any publication of a TDS specifying shelf life, rather only a MSDS which does not include this info.

simpel answer is yes it will need to be baked, the typical shelf life for a sealed component assuming it has been sealed would be a max of 2 years but some are shorter. The bugger problem with the device may well be solderability of the device!

Good day, Are there any IPC standards applying requirements to HASL PCB shelf life? Are there any exact figures such as one year for instance? Could you point me to standard numbers if they exist. Iny input would be appreciated. Regards, Pavel

Hello all, Can anyone advise if any standard covers ENIG plated boards shelf life? Or share what you do for bare boards storage and expiration criteria?

ENIG boards have low shelf life as oxidation starts showing up quickly on the solderable areas. We usually keep them vacuum packed till they are ready to be assembled. Most PCB manufacturers will send them vacuum packed.
