Hi We did some evaluation to solder 0.4mm pitch by Wave. We found that there were many solder shorts at Sockets pins so it made touch up time longer. Please advise me someone has achieved the fine pitch soldering by wave. Thanks in advance.

We've think that with seen solder shorts under BGAs after wave soldering the boards. In addition, it seems to be related to a certain soldermask configuration over the topside BGA vias.. THere is one vendor,A, that is applying soldermask after HASL,

Hi I am having solder short defects on the bottom side with SMD devices that run through the Wave solder. May you let me know any IPC guildelines about the spacing, orientation or any other design guidelines for avoid solder defects with SMD device

What kind of wave are you using? Is this an old job and a new problem? Sounds like dross shorting to me, Make sure the wave is flowing over the back plate (at least when the board hits it). good luck, pr

I have a CEM-1 PCB board with 35 microns copper. This is PCB is finished with SMOBC+HALS. We do solder SMT LEDs, but till date we do not have problems that you have listed. The LEDs are good & bright. It even passed high & low temp cycle tests (-40 t

IPC SM 782 has some info on wave solder pad geometries. We usually like .03" spacing to any uncommon conductors. I would assume that you are seeing shorts between components and vias or adjacent parts? Russ

We are finding solder shorts under 1206 Components on the bottom side of our boards. In all cases these shorts are from either side of the component to a feed-thru under the component body. Adhesive is used to glue down the component and then the boar

1) Try to keep lead as short as possible. 2) The long side of the connector in the direction of conveyor. 3) Use pallet, design such that the connector is 45 degree to the wave.( or conveyor). May not remove all shorts but reduce to one area i.e. th

Very good point. I will be linking back to the page shortly when the my 30 training videos, 15 CD ROMs are featured on the book store page. This will be happening shortly as its an administration thing. Thanks for the input there will be a wave solde

It is random. By the way, this board pass thought wave process, (BGA is at the top), will that cause the older short issue?
