The immersion silver is an active surface and readily combines with sulfur from the environment. Silver sulfide tarnishes the surface and creates doubt about the integrity of the finish at inspection. [uyemura.com/library-4.htm] Your customer's boar

Soldermask - sulfur presence

Our Customer had detected tarnished pad on ImAg PCBA and had conducted several SEM-EDX test at the soldermask below some of the chip resistors. High concentration of sulfur was found and it can be significantly reduced after further chemical cleaned

My specialty. Your right, Most corrugated contains S02 and the pallet is usually out gassing formic acid as well. Not a great environment for silver. Original press release follows: Reactive Polymers At AT&T Bell Labs, John P. Franey has developed

As long as the surface is solderable, you should be fine. Silver tarnish a well0-known thing. Make sure, though, there is no sulfur (S) "around". Regards, Vlad

You know the scary part about your mentioning a tread where I post something? Well. let's just say that 2007 was a long time ago. Anyhow, silver will dissolve into your solder and provide no barrier. Some people apply a silver flash plating over the

Your plater's recommendation should work fine. Your simple copper plate will work, but you'll be stepping into fighting a copper tarnish battle. Silver over the copper is a better choice. I was thinking a silver thickness of a minimum of 3 microns

Hi All, I have few questions about creeping corrosion that potentially happen on lead free immersion silver PCB as below: 1) What test that we can conducted to verify whether the failure we seen is due to creeping corrosion? 2) I heard that lead fr

Avoid cardboard boxes as well. They are sulfur bearers, and silver has an affinity to form silver sulfide.

ASTM E 443 is a test for sulfur by Oxygen Flask Combustion. Other instruments will detect sulfur (I assume a SEM with EDS capability will pick up the sulfur). We had an addition cure silicone potting compound inhibition problem last year that was t
