Post Reflow changes To Silver Immersion Copper Traces On PWB

Your silver immersion layer is dissolving in the solder. I presume this is what is meant to happen. But with copper tracks underneath that should be fine. Does your SAC305 cover all of the pad. If so no problem. If not then you will need to flux your

What type of finish are the PCB's? HASL, tin immersion, silver immersion,........we've seen all the above problems with HASL finished boards. Usually either reheating w/ a soldering iron or "burnishing" with a scotch brite pad has worked for us.

Immersion Silver Reliability

I just got a report from MacDermid on Solder Mask Interface Attack Issue (SMIA) with Sterling Silver Process. Corrosive chemicals in the ImAg process get trapped under the soldermask edge and eat at the copper trace. They are experimenting with diffe

I think all silver on a bare board is Immersion. We are a bare board manufacturer and that is the only silver I'm aware of being used as a finish. What is the problem you are having?

Sterling is a Mac Dermid [www.macprintedcircuits.com/final] product. They should be able to help make the distinction that you look to make.

Immersion Tin

Immersion tin, if it is being correctly identified, is not a final surface finish for a bare board. White tin is typically the way a finish is refered to. Either way tin has gotten a very bad reputation via a couple satellite failures because of tin

Imm Silver tarnish?

Electronics Forum | Wed Aug 27 18:28:29 EDT 2008 | blnorman

We have an immersion silver board that has a brown discoloration after processing. It's not flux residue, that normally doesn't cause this condition. Elemental analysis shows less than 1% sulfur, and I thought silver sulfide is more a black color.

Immersion Silver Board Finishes

There reasoning is ignorance. They are most likely concerned about tarnish on PCB surface. We have let immersion silver PCBs sit out open for 10 days in a noncontrolled enviromnent. We had no issues with these assemblies and they were segregated a

I am experiencing a "tarnishing" issue on PWB traces that may be causing problems with component reflow. The PWB traces are made to the following spec: SOLDER MASK OVER BARE COPPPER WITH SILVER IMMERSION PLATING PER IPC4553, PLATING TO BE 8-12 MIC
