We have a double sided board with Immersion Silver Plating. After reflow the Silver turns a yellowish color. It still wets good, and the yellow color will polish off with a pencil eraser. Has anyone seen this, or know the cause?

IPC Plating Committee is presently working on a specification for immersion tin [IPC-4554 Specification for Immersion Tin Plating for Printed Circuit Boards] as a solderable surface finish. Immersion tin is normally deposited at 30 to 60 microinches.

Grant, i have heard of a few cases where the PCB is "reworked" by the PCB house, where the immersion silver that did not wet to the base copper was reworked by just putting immersion silver on top of the non-wetted immersion silver. I know your PCB

Are you seeing this on bare PCBs or after assembly? with Immersion silver, the finish over the copper should be very thin and uniform, that's the main advantage of ImAg. You should not be seeing excess plating filling vias unless: A)Its HASL, not

We don't use flex pcbs but have the same issue here. Most of our pcbs are HASL finish. I have looked at silver and gold immersion and both look really good under my color camera on my AOI. However, gold is more pricey. There is no additional cost
