I am wondering what skills operators need to run an smd line itself. At our company they know how the pick&place machine works (refill/ changover), but if there is a problem with wrong placed components they don't known what to do. Our managmenttea

Our lines have operators on all shifts capable of doing programming start-to-finish and can deal with almost any program related problem. We are high mix, low volume. Our builds are sometimes one of a kind with qauntities of 20 or 30. We empower a

We have a system where when we set up the line to run a job before the first part is placed an auditor verifies we have all the correct parts loaded on the machines in thier correct locations. We then run a first article. The board is inspected to in

Is this a new assembly/new test fixture/program? Or is this an existing assembly that is suddenly exhibiting this failure? Capacitors measured in circuit will not necessarily measure their correct values. Active components in circuit will be affec

Whoaaaa Genny, Its not that bad!!! The difficulty factor is in assembling your own boards is all releative to how many, and how difficult they are. Most studies show that the vast majority of defects in smd assembly are generated in the application

There a several things you can do to prevent the solder wicking down the hole with the current design, and that's where you should focus. Cost goes up as you go down the list, but in neither case do you need to respin the board, have solder starvatio

From a manufacturing standpoint, this isn't very nice. Vias will tend to wick solder away from the pad, resulting in insuficient solder joints, which require touch-up. The amount of times any solder joint is reheated should be minimized, as extra h

I do think that the designer goofed, and used too large vias. I believe he only used on size via on the entire board, regardless of whether it was in a pad, or out on the board. I have seen vias in pad work, though. From a manufacturing standpoint
