Re: Alpha HI FLO solder

| We are currently fighting a dross battle on our non-inerted waves. We are currently using a bar solder that barely meets QQS-571 for Alloy/Impurity. | | Is anybody using HI FLO in a non inerted wave? Do you see a measureable decrease in dross? |

Rob Just wondering - have you made analysis of your solder alloy on a regular basis? We are using SAC305 but stainless steel parts (e.g. a nut or a washer) dissolve quite quickly.

I mean...there are a ton of possibilities for bridging on selective solder before you ever get to alloy purity. Are the bridges happening consistently in the same spot? Are the leads too long? Can you modify the approach/exit/peel off to address? Wh

A near eutechtic alloy [ie, 63/37, 62/36/2, etc] would be fine. People print, place, and reflow millions of cermaic capacitors with these alloys every day.

No-Lead solder defect - No solder on pads

Electronics Forum | Fri Dec 12 11:52:59 EST 2003 | Marc Simmel

I have encountered problems with a 90/10 tin-lead plated SMT component wicking all the solder paste off the pads on the substrate. Worst, the defect occurs randomly - adjacent leads may have 'good' joints, though heel fillets are poor. The solder pa

There's a fair number of issues with lead and bismuth solder alloys: * Lead and bismuth alloys can form a eutectic composition of Bi52Pb32Sn16 in the grain boundaries. Melting point of the eutectic alloy is 95C [~96C?]. * Fillet lifting of PTH du

It is pretty high, I will have to try it with no exhaust, thanks for the idea. Have a great weekend. I should also mention someone that knows metal alloys told me that that much extra Nickle can cause the melt point to go up. Does anyone run hotter t

Lead free solder paste selection

Hi Everyone, I am just curious, is there a guidline that people follow for choosing their lead-free solder paste? In other words, how do people know whether they should use Indium alloy, or Castin (Sn/Ag/Cu), or whatever else? Thanks

Depends on your specific application. Can you handle lower reflow temps? Can your parts handle higher reflow temps? What environment will your assembled product have to endure? Lot of different factors come in to play when choosing the right allo
