IPC-610 Rev B: Paragraph 4.1 (page 52), As an exception to fil requirements on Table 4-1 on thermal heat sink planes plated through holes, a 50% vertical fill of solder is permitted, but with solder extending 360 degrees around the lead with 100% wet

A few more tricks to try: - Got a hot air rework machine? You can get more controlled heat on the area and lower the risk of damage to the fab. I never got topside fillets un unrelieve ground planes until I went to convection preheat on my waves.

We went to Indium WS to help reduce this type of issuse as well might want to think about a cross through the middle this has also helped us on similar issues.

"Gap" in completed solder joint between lead and pad

Electronics Forum | Thu Nov 30 16:14:33 EST 2006 | darby

Maybe ask your customer where they got this idea from? It is possible they may have even got this idea from some white paper or article where they are trying to explain something else and show drawings with no solder between the pad and lead. It may

obtain XY data from solder pad gerber drawing????

Im trying to get the XY data to program the SMT machines. since i dont have the file, im trying to convert it from the gerber drawing. the closest one to represent the component placement is the solder pad. ive tried using linkcad to convert it to XY

Can we hide extra long pad with solder mask ?

Electronics Forum | Fri Nov 09 16:58:30 EST 2001 | davef

Go for it!!! You were unspecific, but adding mask to a completed board could cause: * Increased paste thickness, if you have double thickness of solder mask. * Wrinkled and lifted solder mask under the component, if the solderability protection of

"Gap" in completed solder joint between lead and pad

Electronics Forum | Tue Nov 28 09:21:58 EST 2006 | Michael Sanders

Is anyone aware of any articles, white papers, etc., that discuss the gap between the lead and the pad after a SM joint is soldered? In particular, I am looking for a formula for that "gap" for various components.
