* Finally, when soldered by hand, do the problem pads take solder? Yes, the XRF analysis will be interesting.

Assuming that you do not have a solderability problem with the board or part it sounds like you are not pumping the solder up high enough to contact the board plus push into the board by about 1.8mm. Are you using a chip wave in front of the normal

Pat: No, but if you describe the situation we may be able to sort through your soldering problem. Good luck. Dave F

Bare Copper Circuit Boards

Electronics Forum | Fri Jun 18 15:56:33 EDT 1999 | C.K.

Has there anyone bold enough to try this in their shops? My cubemate just got through telling me that at his last shop, they had bare copper boards (no HASL, no OSP, no nothing), with minimal solderability problems.

Sn/Pb diffusion

I need to find out about tin/lead diffusion and how this causes solderability problems in device lead-outs. This is not to be confused with an earlier thread of Zn/Pb diffusion - unfortunately this is was a typo.

Rob, The first thing I checked was the profile, just for that reason. We've profiled the board with thermocouples on both sides of the battery clip and the profile looks good.

Gold Surface Finish on PCB's

Electronics Forum | Thu Dec 08 08:29:25 EST 2005 | davef

Grant The solution to soldering problems with immersion gold boards is: find a supplier that can control his/her process. Electroplated gold over nickel is a very reasonable process. Billions of wire bound boards use it evry year.

Solderality problems with SN100C Lead Free Hasl

Electronics Forum | Thu Sep 21 17:39:32 EDT 2006 | Cmiller

We have used it and it seems to be fine. I think we have probably run a few thousand boards with it across maybe 6 different assemblies.
