I have heard the term as both green stick and orange stick, but yes, pushing on the leads to detect un soldered leads. The amount of force is subjective. Any thoughts on this is appreciated.

We call this the "orange stick test", but who's coloring? In preforming the test, you're supposed to use a light touch. Unfortunately, it's difficult to calibrate a "light touch." So, operators often end-up using too much force when probing or usi

I think Steve is on to it. The wire is not getting hot enough to wet. Either the solderer is attempting to solder too quickly, or the PTH is connected to a ground plane. The solder sticking up through the hole leads me to think it's connected to a

I have been looking at wave pallets with titanium inserts. I was told about another more recent and less expensive insert using aluminum. The aluminum is coated with some sort of material to prevent the solder from sticking. Is this anodized? Does an

Are you positive that the solder is sticking to the bottom of the fixture OR is it pushing the wave down so far that the solder is "squirting" out from underneath the pallet. This happens when deep/thick pallets are run at the same wave height as a n

Time to get more solder paste and have no clearer ideas on the matter than last time. Going through the smaller jars on Digikey these two stand out (as I think they did last time!): One's Water Soluble (that's the one I got last time) and the other

You werent clear but I assume the problem is not widely distributed and affects only a few parts on each board. Do this trick: * Cut a ~1 piece of fairly serious wire, like 18 or 12 AWG. * Strip the insulation. * Gear-up with gloves, glasses, and

Three methods, all work, all require generous use of flux. 1.) Use a heated, electrical desoldering tool with flux. Just be sure that you select a forgiving desoldering tip with a rounded tip end to it so that you do not scratch the pad. Advantage:

Check placement pressure. I agree with the "smushing" theory. If you can place the component with less pressure, I'd do that first. A switch to Type three paste is also a good idea, as long as your minimum aperture dimension remains at 0.009" as you

Hi, Are you coating the bottom of the palette with flux? What's the material of the palette. I have not seen that, but we did have some weird problems when we did not add flux on a virgin palette, but once it dirtied up a little it was ok. We had
