Is the lead leaving a depression in the solder that wetted the pad or is there maybe just not enough solder to fill the gap?

Why don't you guys look at the "WORLD LEADERS IN SOLDER RECOVERY". EVS International make the EVS 3000 and EVS 6000 Solder Recovery Systems. Many other companies have tried to come up with different ways of recovering solder but the EVS is the best

Similarly, we have eliminated solder balls by using an aqueous washer.

You may want to pre tin wires then dip into flux before soldering Does work!

30 gage wire and lap solder, you will have no issues.
