Solderability

Electronics Forum | Mon Oct 31 09:35:59 EST 2005 | Slaine

Hi as this has a gold flash the nickle should be active an not require strong fluxes, i would suggest either your not getting enough heat into it (unlikely if your seeing dewetting). or that you have a plating problem the nickle has oxidised before

YiEng, MA/NY DDave: Usually when the gold plating bath goes south, you loose solderability.

Polymide material PCB

Electronics Forum | Fri Jan 21 13:29:35 EST 2005 | vinod

Hi Friends, I had a PCB with polymide material with nickle tin plating on it. I had real hard time to do hand solder. I am asking help if any one have any experience with polymide material.

Hello Kris If you do have and OSP coating I'd say Curtis has nailed it. But you seem to have references to gold. Does this board have a standard nickle/gold finish. If so what sort of "solder on gold" problems were you having? Reading between the

Gold plated PCB's

Hi mate, we had a crap experience (once...no more...) with gold plated over nickle (Au/Ni) PCB that had nickle contaminents in the PCB supplier's gold bath. the Ni caused batch-delivery of the PCB to us for mass production, to exhibit the visible s

If the problem as you described as the gold plating contaminated, and the Nickel layer exposed to the solder pot. However, the purpose of the gold layer is to protect the nickel and copper layer not turn into corrosion and resist to other issue (humi

RoHS PCB Questions

No, the thicker plating and need for very high quality drilling and plating is DUE to the higher copper dissolution rate and higher contact time. As to the Sn100C material, their claims seem to confirm a "lower" copper dissolution rate, but so does A

I can't see the image very well, but from what i see it looks like oxidation. looks like an ENIG finish on the board, possibly a plating issue from the bare board house, thin gold or the nickle is to thick. one other question i would get an answer t

O' Connor: Are you saying that: * You solder fine in the areas where you print paste * You solder poorly in the areas where you don't print paste Aside from that, the gold on these pads seems to be less bright than previous lots. [if that's not it

blowholes in SMT process

Electronics Forum | Sat Mar 21 09:09:40 EDT 2009 | davef

Your puzzlement about blowholes in PTH solder connections during reflow soldering comes from: * Boards are hydroscopic. So, moisture content of the board is uniform. * Gold plating is uniform. * Nickle plating is uniform. * Copper plating on your PTH
