Dear forum types, 1st timer so be good. I have a customer in China using Coates soldermask that in its self is not a problem. The problem is the flux their using, I think,it appears to have a vary high viscosity. The problem they have laid at my door

Soldermask Defined BGA Pads

Matt, are there any discoloration of the pads on the raw boards. i have seen what we refer to as gray pads. Ran into this in the past and it turned out to be a problem at the board house with one of their dipping tanks. The proper levels for the proc

Re: HASL?

Electronics Forum | Thu Jun 29 07:48:59 EDT 2000 | Mark

Welcome Bob, HASL stands for "Hot Air Solder Level" and is the final finish the raw boards guys place on the solder pads on the PCB. There are two popular raw board finishes, HASL which is a solder finish and NiAu which is Nickle Gold, and is a Gol

Why gold plating on PCB?

Electronics Forum | Fri Feb 28 08:48:00 EST 2020 | SMTA-Joe

We've made the decision to move towards Gold Immersion on our PCBs to eliminate flatness issues with QFNs and BGAs. Land/component pad geometry, population density, and other factors, have made it necessary to ensure a near perfectly flat surface tha

Unusual solderability issue

Electronics Forum | Mon Apr 19 15:45:21 EDT 2010 | dwonch

Thanks to all for your input. We did have a third party do an analysis on boards from the first shop. They were shipped directly from the board shop to eliminate the possibility that we could contaminate them. The third party (Forsite) did find Sili

Lead free parts on a leaded assembly

Electronics Forum | Thu Oct 05 15:58:16 EDT 2006 | RusH

Mario, Thanks for your response. We are building a leaded assembly with hot air leveled Sn/Pb pads on the PCB. In one case the component is a 7.5X5.2X1.8 wire wound ferrite inductor with Au/Sn leads. The second component is an 0808 Tantalum cap,
