Hi, Does anyone have guidelines on minimum SMT component spacing for bottom sided wave soldering? I am looking for general rule of thumb in wave soldering bottom side SOTs, 0805 & 0603s. How about minimum through-hole lead to pad distance? Peter

Ooops, sorry Peter. [Those pesky decimal points.] I meant to say �150-200 thou�. There is a fair amount of 'Kentucky Windage' in this due to: * Height of the component and the down-stream spacing. * Chip wave capabilities.

Does the conductor spacing requirement in IPC-600G apply to pads? Does it include the nickel/gold finish or only the underlying copper?

I believe that a conductor is a conductor regardless of type, so the surface finish counts. What are the pad spacings that you speak of?

No max spacing spec. except that it should not be so far away from the other one that it is no longer on the board! IPC 782 shows .5mm spacing for the min.

So I set up a board yesterday and did a test run. It appears that the spacing does matter on my machine. It placed the part off-center the same amount as one of the fiducials. Im going to look more into fixturing and placement pressure adjustments I

There is no standard for the spacing of components, nor should there be. We have a difficult time picturing your 0805 at a 45* to the wave and the safe pin, but we'd guess this spacing needs to be 10 thou.
