solder paste selection for an oxidized pin?

Electronics Forum | Wed Oct 15 07:31:29 EDT 2008 | davef

Similar to Jax's comment, concern yourself with the the activity level of the flux. A more active flux would be more aggressive in removing tarnish. Certainly, the choice depends on the type and amount of tarnish. Probably, you need to consider your

raw copper on pcb

Hi, I have pcbs (Duroid/RT 5880) with raw copper, soldered in vapour-phase chamber at 230 degrees Celsius. During soldering, copper gets tarnished. Cleaning with Vigon A250 removes the tarnished layer. Indeed, in the VigonA250 techn. datasheet it is

PCB becomes darken (yellownish)

Electronics Forum | Wed Sep 03 11:42:21 EDT 2008 | robinj

If the tarnish is really dark, it is very difficult to remove. Since it is yellowish it is only in the early stages. Replating will definitely work. I have used sulfuric acid based cleaners to remove this yellowish color. But rinse well and dry quick

| My guess would be trapped flux continuing to be active after soldering. Is the tarnish there immediately after exiting the machine? Do you remove the mask and wash right away? If the solder is reflowing under the mask on the component side it wo

| We are using .040" diameter fiducials (global and local) on our boards. They are solder covered and HASL. I get batches of boards where the p&p vision system has trouble reading the fiducial. The fiducial looks dark on the screen. The board ven

| | We are wave soldering some fabs with a lot of unmasked trace area along the edges. The trace area is solid copper covered with tin / lead, no masking, no components along the edges, same on solder side and component side (goofy board design). I

Pad finish

Electronics Forum | Thu Oct 07 08:13:52 EDT 2010 | remullis

I just swapped from the HASL to Immersion Silver mainly because the board house we use could not maintain consistency in keeping the pads level. I was constantly battling bumps and bad finishes on the pads. They are able to give me a consistent board

Tarnished surface upon cleaning with DI water + saponifier

Electronics Forum | Fri Feb 13 11:54:44 EST 2004 | Gary

We have an automatic washer that is using DI water in the final rinse for stainless steel surgical tools. Is this practical. Will it extented the life of the tools or just remove spots?

Lead Free ...

Frank, We are currently running lead free for approximately 1 yr. now but no where near the volumes you have mentioned. We are about 5k units per month. I personally am in agreement with you as far as OSP. I also do not like white tin finish since
