Hi. I am looking for a printer that can print a conductive circuit on a thin film, like polyester or mylar film. Any lead would be appreciated. Thanks, bme

The company that does this is McDermid. There are multiple different ways of doing it. Screen print silver paste onto the mylar, "activate" the film to be conductive, then plate in copper. These processes are found in the patent literature which is e

Hi folks, I have a conformal coating application where I need the coating to be UV stable for a number of years without any crazing or cracking of the coating. I have looked for such a coating and have come up empty handed. Much of the circuit boar

Steve- We had the same trouble with 0805 Panasonic film caps. We had some tombstoning and open solder joints (non-wetting). We found two problems...like you, we changed our pad design to meet their recommendation. Also, they were able to suppl

You should be able to obtain a smooth finish. A "glass-like finish" is in part a function of the coating material, assuming good process. When we see "orange peel" conformal coating, we think moisture from the spray room environment, conpressor, et

I just went through the same problem. We have an inductor that is made with a bundle of 30-strands of Litz wire that is vaccuum coated with varnish, and have the ends of the wire bundles tinned that we have to solder to SMT pads on the board. The ind

Our research group is looking for a more efficient method of coating a small piece of sheet metal. We have a 1.5cm x 1.5cm very thin sheet of metal that we are coating with liquid epoxy, using a brush that was provided. This method has become unacc

Have you considered spraying the coating? Check with the manufacturer of the epoxy to see if they recommend any equipment and whether or not the coating would have to be mixed with solvent to provide a smooth, thin even coat.

Q1.Does anyone know a way to verify the amount of OSP coating on a board? A1. There is no specification. Thickness is difficult to measure. Thickness is product related. There are at least six major suppliers. Years ago, here on SMTnet, J Medernach s

inspect => conformal coat ... and standards are aligned with that philosophy. I can imagine doing a good job inspecting assembly after being coated with particular coating thickness, optical properties, lighting conditions. Ultra-thins are so thin
