On average there are about 3 parts per board that get hand placed (x24 is 72 parts per panel). One of these parts is a big 1W resistor that cannot fit on our axial machine. We also have a Zener Diode that needs to be hand placed because its leads are

You have to be sure the TH parts can take the reflow temps. A lot of time you willl have to get special components. We do some BNC's this way, but they had to be special order BNC's. There is more info in the fine SMTnet archives.

UIC still manufacturers new thru-hole machines. Both axial and radial insertion models are available. They stopped making the multi-mod dip inserters in '91 or '92. And parts are easily acquired for any older models, there were a ton of machines out

"Do you think these machines are less appropriate for smaller lot sizes and PCB's with just a few through hole parts?" That depends. It will still save time if your lot sizes are small, as opposed to hand placement. I would not recommend buying an

Hi Adam, Good question. I know I am seeking a lot of details. Here's the deal. Five years ago I acquired the assets of Contact Systems. Since then I have been re-manufacturing the CS-400E machine which if you are not familiar with is a light guid

Hi Adam...thanks for your follow up comments. The auto inserter in the video is a machine from a time gone by...But quite impressive. Those machines are good for higher volume where high flexibility may not be required. not sure if all of the comp

Thank You Adam...this is the type of input I am looking for. To summarize, you are an OEM that has gone through the process to remove most through hole parts from your assemblies. Those that remain are primarily connectors which may not require lea

Good ole contact cs-400. I worked at two different companies that had these machines, all I believe were E's except 1 C. One place had one and the other place had 4 of them. Dont take this personally, but thank god my current employer doesn't have a
