Wave Solder Balls, VOC-Free Flux, and Glossy Mask

Electronics Forum | Tue Oct 03 18:41:16 EDT 2006 | C.K. Flip

With recent implementation of VOC-Free flux in our shop, we've experienced little solder fines/balls on the above combo of VOC-Free, Water Based, and glossy to semi-glossy mask finish on PCB's. The solder balls show up on close conductor spacings, ~

If you want an inexpensive, good, somewhat dedicated, solution, then I would use a desktop wave pot like Wenesco or better yet Air Vac. The PCBRM10 or PCBRM12 from Air Vac may still be available. Can find on Ebay also. They have a quick change, pr

lead free components in leaded process

Electronics Forum | Mon Jul 16 10:17:22 EDT 2007 | realchunks

Yes you can use no-lead parts in a leaded process. Your solder joints will be weaker than they once were unless you change your solder paste. You can try to improve this by running a hotter reflow temp, but be careful since your flux was not design

problem with vapor phase

Electronics Forum | Wed Jul 10 16:34:23 EDT 2013 | hegemon

Preheating is critical in Vapor Phase Soldering. One trick that is done is to use the "soft vapor" area just above the soldering vapor, some machines can pause just before going into the soldering vapor. Using that pause above the vapor to continue
