Rob We agree with Jason's point about swab lead indicators. You need to be careful interpreting the results. Lead must be in sufficient measurable quantities as found in Sn 63/37 or Sn 60/40 solders. Handheld units are: * Oxford (bought the X-Met

See if you can find someone with an XRF machine or talk to your Current Board house they probably have this equiptment if they run ENIG or Silver finishes. I would stop in with some boards your having issues with and have them measure the thickness.

CMI International says, there are five basic, non-destructive methods of determining coating thickness. Each method was devised to achieve cost-effective, accurate, and repeatable results. Those methods are: * X-Ray fluorescence * Eddy-current * M

Enrique It's true that higher energy guns do a better job measuring "light" materials. [Actually, if that was true by itself, you'd expect the fabricator's readings to be higher than yours. But, HEY!!!] Regardless, there's alot more to getting an

Juan There are many things that cause this and the first thing I would do is request quality records from your board fab facility on that particular lot. If they are unwilling to give them to you this is a good sign they had a processing problem. Th

I have read many of the past threads on both topics and I still am not convinced I know the answer to the soldering problem we are encountering. I am hopping someone can help. I have a dense SMT board we are building and have been building for some
