Crafting an Efficient SMT Conformal Coating Line for Double-Sided PCBA In the intricate realm of electronics manufacturing, selecting the ideal SMT conformal coating line can seem like a challenging quest. The pursuit of a solution that seamlessly integrates efficiency, reliability, and performance is the ultimate goal. In this article, we embark on a journey to unravel the secrets of a standard SMT conformal coating line, using a captivating visual guide as our compass. The Symphony Of Components In An SMT Conformal Coating Line Picture a finely orchestrated symphony, with each instrument playing a unique role in this PCB coating process. The star performers in this lineup include: Transfer Conveyor: These act as the stage where the PCB's journey begins. Think of them as the entry and exit points for your precious boards, allowing a smooth, choreographed dance through the line. 1st Coating Machine: As the first movement in this musical journey, this machine, partnered with the initial curing station, lays down the foundation – applying adhesive to one side of the PCB. Inspection Conveyor: After the initial curing, our inspectors take center stage, using these transfer stations to carefully evaluate the coating's quality. 1st Curing Oven: This is where the magic happens. The first curing oven solidifies the adhesive applied in the previous act, setting the tone for a flawless performance. Flipper Machine: The flipper machine takes the spotlight, gracefully turning the PCB to reveal its other side, ensuring both faces receive their share of adhesion. 2nd Coating Machine: With a newfound perspective, the second coating machine takes the stage, applying adhesive to the reverse side of the PCB. 2nd Curing Oven: The grand finale! The second curing oven brings our symphony to a breathtaking close, solidifying the adhesive applied in the second act, creating a harmonious, dual-sided masterpiece. Efficiency Meets Dual-Side Coating This SMT conformal coating line is like a well-choreographed ballet that requires at least two dancers. One stands at the front, carefully loading PCBs onto the stage, guiding them through the first act. After the flip, the second dancer carries them through the second act, with both sides perfectly coated, ensuring a flawless performance for applications requiring dual-sided adhesion. UV Curing Oven For Illuminating Results For applications that embrace UV-curable adhesives, our line includes UV curing ovens, adding a layer of brilliance to the process and ensuring an efficient solidification of adhesives. Transfer Stations With A Touch Of Magic Within this symphony, the transfer stations wear a touch of magic – the second and fourth stations feature enchanting blue glass covers illuminated by embedded LED lights. These stations offer operators a clear view of the adhesive quality, allowing for meticulous inspections. The blue glass covers also act as protective shields, guarding freshly coated PCBs from the ever-present dust fairies. Mathematical Model For Dynamic Force Analysis Of Printed Circuit Boards

Technical Library | 2021-09-15 18:58:01.0

Mathematical model for dynamic force analysis of printed circuit boards has been designed to calculate dynamic deformations and stresses in printed circuit boards and assess their dynamic strength and rigidity. The represented model describes a printed circuit board as a separate oscillatory system, which is simulated as prismatic beam set on two oscillating supports. Simulation and assessment of stress and deflection in printed circuit boards and obtaining their amplitude frequency responses provided recommendations, which ensure strength and stiffness of printed circuit boards subjected to dynamic loads..

A System Level Electrostatic Discharge Protection Modeling Methodology for Time Domain Analysis.

Technical Library | 2014-04-03 18:01:13.0

A system level modeling methodology is presented and validated on a simple case. It allows precise simulations of electrostatic discharge (ESD) stress propagation on a printed circuit board (PCB). The proposed model includes the integrated circuit (IC) ESD protection network, IC package, PCB lines, passives components, and externals elements. The impact of an external component on the ESD propagation paths into an IC is demonstrated. Resulting current and voltage waveforms are analyzed to highlight the interactions between all the elements of an operating PCB. A precise measurement technique was designed and used to compare with the simulation results. The model proposed in this paper is able to predict, with good accuracy, the propagation of currents and voltages into the whole system during ESD stress. It might be used to understand why failures occur and how to fix them with the most suitable solution.

Modelling of Thermal Stresses in Printed Circuit Boards

Technical Library | 2011-10-20 22:03:30.0

Results of FEM modelling of thermal stress analysis in printed circuit boards are given in the article. It is shown that thermal stress alone is not solely caused by differences in coefficients of thermal expansion of individual layers. The emergence of thermal stress is subject to both the layered structure of the wall and given boundary conditions, as well as the existence of a temperature gradient in the direction normal to the surface of the wall. A practical application focuses on the issue of recycling of PCB with the effort to achieve separation of layers due to thermal stress. Role modelling of thermal stress in this area lies in predicting the possibility of separation, depending on the type of thermal stress and material parameters.

Physics of Failure (PoF) Based Lifetime Prediction of Power Electronics at the Printed Circuit Board Level

Technical Library | 2021-09-15 19:00:35.0

This paper presents the use of physics of failure (PoF) methodology to infer fast and accurate lifetime predictions for power electronics at the printed circuit board (PCB) level in early design stages. It is shown that the ability to accurately model silicon–metal layers, semiconductor packaging, printed circuit boards (PCBs), and assemblies allows, for instance, the prediction of solder fatigue failure due to thermal, mechanical, and manufacturing conditions. The technique allows a lifecycle prognosis of the PCB, taking into account the environmental stresses it will encounter during the period of operation. Primarily, it involves converting an electronic computer aided design (eCAD) circuit layout into computational fluid dynamic (CFD) and finite element analysis (FEA) models with accurate geometries. From this, stressors, such as thermal cycling, mechanical shock, natural frequency, and harmonic and random vibrations, are applied to understand PCB degradation, and semiconductor and capacitor wear, and accordingly provide a method for high-fidelity power PCB modelling, which can be subsequently used to facilitate virtual testing and digital twinning for aircraft systems and sub-systems.

A Life Prediction Model of Multilayered PTH Based on Fatigue Mechanism

Technical Library | 2019-12-26 19:13:52.0

Plated through hole (PTH) plays a critical role in printed circuit board (PCB) reliability. Thermal fatigue deformation of the PTH material is regarded as the primary factor affecting the lifetime of electrical devices. Numerous research efforts have focused on the failure mechanism model of PTH. However, most of the existing models were based on the one-dimensional structure hypothesis without taking the multilayered structure and external pad into consideration. In this paper, the constitutive relation of multilayered PTH is developed to establish the stress equation, and finite element analysis (FEA) is performed to locate the maximum stress and simulate the influence of the material properties. Finally, thermal cycle tests are conducted to verify the accuracy of the life prediction results. This model could be used in fatigue failure portable diagnosis and for life prediction of multilayered PCB.

The Effects of Silver Content and Solidification Profile on the Anand Constitutive Model for SAC Lead Free Solders

Technical Library | 2023-06-14 01:09:26.0

In the electronic packaging industry, it is important to be able to make accurate predictions of board level solder joint reliability during thermal cycling exposures. The Anand viscoelastic constitutive model is often used to represent the material behavior of the solder in finite element simulations. This model is defined using nine material parameters, and the reliability prediction results are often highly sensitive to the Anand parameters. In this work, an investigation on the Anand constitutive model and its application to SAC solders of various Ag contents (i.e. SACN05, with N = 1, 2, 3, 4) has been performed. For each alloy, both water quenched (WQ) and reflowed (RF) solidification profiles were utilized to establish two unique specimen microstructures, and the same reflow profile was used for all four of the SAC alloys so that the results could be compared and the effects of Ag content could be studied systematically.
