A HDMI Design Guide For Successful High-Speed PCB Design

Technical Library | 2009-03-25 17:14:11.0

This article presents design guidelines for helping users of HDMI mux-repeaters to maximize the device's full performance through careful printed circuit board (PCB) design. We'll explain important concepts of some main aspects of high-speed PCB design with recommendations. This discussion will cover layer stack, differential traces, controlled impedance transmission lines, discontinuities, routing guidelines, reference planes, vias and decoupling capacitors.

How to Control Speed of Servo Motor & Anti-Interference Measures

Technical Library | 2021-12-31 01:27:08.0

A servomotor refers to the actuator to control the operation of mechanical components in the servo system and is a subsidy motor indirect transmission device. The servo motor can control speed, whose position accuracy is high, and convert voltage signal into torque and speed to drive the controlled object. A servomotor speed is controlled by the input signal, responding quickly.

Test Structures for Benchmarking the Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Robustness of CMOS Technologies

Technical Library | 1999-08-05 10:34:17.0

This document defines a set of standard test structures with which to benchmark the electrostatic discharge (ESD) robustness of CMOS technologies. The test structures are intended to be used to evaluate the elements of an integrated circuit in the high current and voltage ranges characteristic of ESD events. Test structures are given for resistors, diodes, MOS devices, interconnects, silicon control rectifiers, and parasitic devices. The document explains the implementation strategy and the method of tabulating ESD robustness for various technologies.

A Review of Models for Time-to-Failure Due to Metallic Migration Mechanisms

Technical Library | 2009-10-14 21:17:47.0

Electrochemical migration (ECM) is defined as the growth of conductive metal filaments across a printed circuit board (PCB) in the presence of an electrolytic solution and a DC voltage bias. ECM, also known as dendritic growth, is a critical issue in the electronics industry because the intermittent failure behavior of ECM is a likely root-cause of the high occurrence of field failures identified as no trouble found (NTF)/could not duplicate (CND)

Conductive Anodic Filament: Mechanisms and Affecting Factors

Technical Library | 2021-07-27 14:49:16.0

Conductive anodic filament (CAF) formation, a failure mode in printed wiring boards (PWBs) that are exposed to high humidity and voltage gradients, has caused catastrophic field failures. CAF is an electrochemical migration failure mechanism in PWBs. In this article, we discuss CAF, the factors that enhance it, and the necessary conditions for its occurrence. Published studies are discussed, and the results of historical mean time to failure models are summarized. Potential reasons for CAF enhancement solutions are discussed, and possible directions in which to develop anti-CAF materials are proposed.

Material & Process Influences on Conductive Anodic Filamentation (CAF)

Technical Library | 2023-03-16 19:07:51.0

HISTORY: * In the late 1970s an abrupt unpredictable loss of insulation resistance was observed in PCBs, which were subject to hostile climatic conditions of high relative humidity and temperature while having an applied voltage. * The loss of resistance, even leading to a short circuit was observed to be due to the growth of a subsurface filament from the anode to the cathode. * The term "Conductive Anodic Filamentation" (CAF) was coined.

Using Hansen Space to Optimize Solvent Based Cleaning Processes for Manufacturing Electronic Assemblies.

Technical Library | 2009-07-09 17:23:07.0

Sometimes you just cannot clean with water. Good examples of this are: circuits with batteries attached, cleaning prior to encapsulation, ionic cleanliness testing, and non-sealed or other water sensitive parts. High impedance or high voltage circuits need to be cleaned of flux residues and other soils to maximize performance and reliability and, in these types of circuits; water can be just as detrimental as fluxes. When solvent cleaning is called for, Hansen solubility parameters can help target the best solvent or solvent blend to remove the residue of interest, and prevent degradation of the assembly being manufactured. In short, using this approach can time, manufacturing cost and reduce product liability.

Embedded Passive Technology

Technical Library | 2014-01-09 16:40:33.0

Embedded Passive Technology is a viable technology that has been reliably used in the defense and aerospace industry for over 20 years. Embedded Passive (Resistors and Capacitors) Technology have a great potential for high frequency and high density applications. It also provides better signal performance, reduced parasitic and cross talk. This paper summarizes the selection of resistor embedded materials, evaluations of resistive material (Phase 1) and duplication of a complex digital design (Phase 2). Phase 1 –resistive materials (Foil 25Ω/sq NiCr and 1kΩ/sq CrSiO) and resistive-Ply materials (25Ω/sq and 250Ω/sq NiP) were chosen for evaluation.

Reflow Soldering Method With Gradient Energy Band Generated By Optical System

Technical Library | 2021-11-03 16:36:36.0

Laser reflow soldering is an important technology in electronic components processing. In this paper, we presented a simple but efficient method to achieve reflow soldering process with gradient energy band created by just two parallel mirrors. The detailed influence of the variety of optical parameters on the soldering process has been analyzed by using the finite element method. And the modulation of the optical parameters on reflow soldering parameters also has been demonstrated. In our experiment, one HR mirror and one-mirror with transmissivity of 10% have been used to create a gradient energy band with an incident laser power of 50W. In summary, both the simulations and the experiments show that the typical reflow soldering profile has been acquired by the optical system. The high quality joints on both the front and rear surface of the capacitor can be acquired by just one surface radiation of the optical system.

Optical Bonding

Technical Library | 2019-01-10 10:24:47.0

We notice that the quantities of material that are to be dosed are becoming more and more divergent. In addition to large media volumes, small and very small quantities are also increasingly coming into focus. For example autonomous driving: These vehicles already produce an immense amount of data today. When potting the associated sensors, cameras, and ECUs, it is important to ensure a precise and repeatable media application – even with volumes of only 0.03 ml. In contrast, when high-voltage batteries for electric cars are potted, 5 to 10 litres of heat-conducting paste are required per vehicle – and the trend is rising. Optical bonding used in display production, on the other hand, is in the medium volume range. The challenge now is to cover the entire volume spectrum reliably and in compliance with the required cycle times. This is remedied by a modular system of scalable modules, which offers the customer the necessary flexibility and enables him to plan a system according to his needs.
