Technical Library | 2019-01-20 22:47:35.0

With the rapid development of the electronics industry, more and more components such as integrated circuits and connectors, relays, power modules, etc. need to be packaged with IC tubes. The anti static ic tubes is actually a kind of pvc plastic(reference to : What are the materials for IC tubes) profile, the size varies with the shape of the installed product, the precision requirement is high, the wall thickness should be controlled within ±0.1mm, and the surface is required to have no impurity spots, smooth and transparent. The IC packaging tubes produced by Sewate Technology Co., Ltd. are extruded. The typical process flow is: extrusion, vacuum adsorption setting, traction, fixed length cutting and directional discharge, deburring, immersion antistatic liquid, drying, testing, packaging and storage

Novel Pogo-Pin Socket Design for Automated Low Signal Linearity Testing of CT Detector Sensor

Technical Library | 2019-01-30 21:20:47.0

Due to the arrayed nature of the Computed Tomography (CT) Detector, high density area array interconnect solutions are critical to the functionality of the CT detector module. Specifically, the detector module sensor element, hereby known as the Multi-chip module (MCM), has a 544 position BGA area array pattern that requires precise test stimulation. A novel pogo-pin block array and corresponding motorized test socket has been designed to stimulate the MCM and acquire full functional test data. (...) This paper and presentation will focus on the socket design challenges and also key learnings from the design that can be applied to general test systems, including reliability testing. The secondary focus will be on the overall data collection and graphical user interface for the test equipment.

Industry 4.0: Mining Physical Defects in Production of Surface-Mount Devices

Technical Library | 2021-12-02 01:44:00.0

With the advent of Industry 4.0, production processes have been endowed with intelligent cyber-physical systems generating massive amounts of streaming sensor data. Internet of Things technologies have enabled capturing, managing, and processing production data at a large scale in order to utilize this data as an asset for the optimization of production processes. In this work, we focus on the automatic detection of physical defects in the production of surfacemount devices. We show how to build a classification model based on random forests that efficiently detects defect products with a high degree of precision. In fact, the results of our preliminary experimental analysis indicate that our approach is able to correctly determine defects in a simulated production environment of surface-mount devices with a MCC score of 0.96. We investigate the feasibility of utilizing this approach in realistic settings. We believe that our approach will help to advance the production of surface-mount devices.

Screen Making for Printed Electronics- Specification and Tolerancing

Technical Library | 2018-03-28 14:54:36.0

Six decades of legacy experience makes the specification and production of screens and masks to produce repeatable precision results mostly an exercise in matching engineering needs with known ink and substrate performance to specify screen and stencil characteristics. New types of functional and electronic devices, flex circuits and medical sensors, industrial printing, ever finer circuit pitch, downstream additive manufacturing processes coupled with new substrates and inks that are not optimized for the rheological, mechanical and chemical characteristics for the screen printing process are becoming a customer driven norm. Many of these materials do not work within legacy screen making, curing or press set-up parameters. Many new materials and end uses require new screen specifications. This case study presents a DOE based method to pre-test new materials to categorize ink and substrate rheology, compatibility and printed feature requirement to allow more accurate screen recipes and on-press setting expectations before the project enters the production environment where time and materials are most costly and on-press adjustment methods may be constrained by locked, documented or regulatory processes, equipment limitations and employee experience.

Statistical Aspect on the Measuring of Intermetallic Compound Thickness of Lead Free Solders

Technical Library | 2018-05-17 11:14:52.0

Intermetallic compound (IMC) growth is being studied in earnest in this past decade because of its significant effect the solder joint reliability. It appears that from numerous investigations conducted, excessive growth of IMC could lead to solder joint failure. Leading to this, many attempts has been made to determine the actual IMC thickness. However, precise and true representation of the growth in the actual 3D phenomenon from 2D cross-section investigations has remained unclear. This paper will focus on the measuring the IMC thickness using 3D surface profilometer (Alicona Focus G4). Lead free solder, Sn3.0Ag0.5Cu (SAC305) was soldered onto copper printed circuit board (Cu PCB). The samples were then subjected to thermal cycle (TC) storage process with temperature range from 0 °C to 100 °C for 200 cycles and up to 1000 cycles were completed.

NEWS! Independent dual Z-axis selective soldering machine

Technical Library | 2020-04-16 05:52:45.0

Based on the dual pot, we developed an independent dual z-axis control dual pot for FLEX-i2! There are 5 operation modes available with the independent dual Z axis: only solder pot1, only solder pot2, first solder pot 1 then solder pot2, first solder pot2 then solder pot1, solder pot1 and solder pot2 together. In specific applications, solder pot1 can be selected with large nozzle soldering heat-absorbing large parts, solder pot2 use small nozzle soldering heat-absorbing small parts, so as to achieve both soldering effect and productivity. Also can use same nozzle, dual axis simultaneously solder two same plate to increase productivity. To get the maximum flexibility and productivity! FLEX-i2 is a compact in line selective soldering machine, equipped with high precision servo control system, jet valve, live-on camera, upper preheating etc, which can provide a high flexibility and efficiency soldering process. The maximum soldering size can reach 420mm*490mm!

Common Process Defect Identification of QFN Packages

Technical Library | 2019-07-23 22:33:47.0

The Quad Flat Pack No Leads (QFN) style of leadless packaging [also known as a Land Grid Array (LGA)] is rapidly increasing in us e for wireless, automotive, telecom and many other areas becaus e of its low cost, low stand-off height and excellent thermal and electri cal properties. With the implementation of any new package type, there is always a learning curve for its use in design and processing as well as for the Process and Quality Engineers who have to get to grips with the challenges that these packages bring. Therefore, this paper will provide examples of the common process defects that can be seen with QFNs /LGAs when using optical and x-ray inspection as part of manufacturing quality control. Results of trials conducted on four PCB finishes and using vapour phase and convection reflow will be discussed.
