Siemens is selling its SIPLACE placement equipment business to ASM Pacific Technology Ltd., Hong Kong. Both companies have signed an agreement to that effect, which is expected to take effect by early 2011 at the latest, provided the cartel authorities and the shareholders of ASM agree. This brings Siemens’s search for a strategic, industrial investor for its Siemens Electronics Assembly Systems GmbH & Co. KG subsidiary (SEAS) to a successful conclusion.

As the new Vice President CRM, Waldemar Christen will head the global customer relationship management operations of the SMT Solutions Segment of ASM Pacific Technology, the world's largest equipment manufacturer for the electronics industry. Waldemar Christen has already led the company's global service operations since 2015 and will now add global sales and global marketing to his duties. Armed with a degree in mechanical engineering with a focus on precision mechanics, Christen began his career in the R&D department of Siemens, where he occupied several positions in sales and as Head of Product Management Europe until 2007. After working in several management positions at electronics manufacturer BMK, Germany, he joined ASM in 2015.

With its new SIPLACE Very-High-Force Head for odd-shaped components, ASM Assembly Systems is adding another major option for its SIPLACE SX placement machines. The new Very-High-Force Head is able to place components up to 30 millimeters high and 200 millimeters long with a force of up to 70 newtons. That way, users can process on their SMT line even extremely large components with snap-in or through-the-hole fasteners such as connector modules for automotive or IT applications.
