A new study, published by IPC – Association Connecting Electronics Industries® finds evidence that a labor shortage exists for electronics manufacturers and that other business issues make the problem worse for some segments of the industry. Based on data from 107 U.S. and Canadian electronics manufacturers and extensive secondary research, IPC Study of the North American Labor Pool for Electronics Manufacturing assesses the causes of the shortage of qualified labor for electronics manufacturing, and offers solutions.

IPC Launches Education Foundation to Strengthen Next Generation of Workers

During its annual STEM Outreach program event at IPC APEX EXPO, IPC introduced the new IPC Education Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization that will help students and the emerging workforce acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in the electronics industry. The IPC Education Foundation focuses on strengthening and shaping the next generation of workers by preparing the talent pipeline, engaging the emerging workforce, improving the perception of the industry, and offering scholarships to deserving students.

IPC Education Foundation Launches Scholarships for Students and Educators Two Scholarship Programs Now Available

The IPC Education Foundation was formally launched during IPC APEX EXPO 2019. As part of that launch, the Foundation committed to starting scholarship programs to raise awareness and reward educators and students that have interest in the electronics industry and the engineering disciplines. On March 4, 2019, the first two of these scholarship programs were opened to eligible participants.

IPC Announces Paige Fiet as First IPC Board of Directors Student Liaison

For the first time, the IPC Board of Directors will include an IPC student member with a full voting board seat, in response to increased student member involvement in IPC and the potential for student members, as the emerging workforce, to influence workforce development. Paige Fiet, president of the IPC Student Chapter at Michigan Technological University, was elected as the first IPC Board of Directors Student Member Liaison. The IPC Education Foundation (IPCEF) developed the nomination/election process with IPC Student Chapter advisors and every IPC Student Chapter member was eligible to vote.

The student chapters at North Carolina State, Central Carolina Community College and Michigan Technical University provide examples of how industry can partner with education institutions to prepare engineering students with knowledge specific to the electronics industry.
