In case of pure pattern recognition, i agree with your view. However, the basic functionality of the fiducial is determine any positional offset of the PCB and provide necessary data for correction during the intended operation such as Paste printing

Dek 249 and Dek 260 models use to have fiducial recognition where table would adjust to the stencil. However, I would still recomend you buy an inline model because the change over will be much faster. Probably 10 times faster.

Nordson ASYMTEK introduces the new Helios™ SD-960 Series Automated Dispensing System for medium and bulk volume deposits of single- (1K) and two-component (2K) materials in electronics manufacturing and printed circuit board assembly.
