ROSEMONT, IL � Industry-leading associations IPC and SMTA jointly announce that Steve Stach, President of Austin American Technology, will moderate a collaborative panel discussion on process integration. The panelists will comprise OEM and EMS process engineers who have experience and expertise in implementing cleaning processes. The panelists include Dave Adams of Rockwell Collins, Jerry Purnell of Philips Medical, Jeff Kennedy of Celestica, Jim Raby of STI Electronics, Dale Lee of Plexus, and Linda Woody of Lockheed Martin. The first ever Rework Experience Competition was held at this year’s SMT Hybrid Packaging international exhibition and conference. This competition tested competitor’s skills in reworking a finished printed circuit board. There were seven total competitors and all seven successfully completed the challenge. Ljupce Talevski, from Aluwave AB took first place. In second place was Ekatarina Stahlmann from Grundig Business Syst. Coming in third place was Conny Hielscher from Grundig Business Syst.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is drafting new reporting requirements on the use of conflict minerals. “These new reporting requirements could have a significant impact on the entire electronics industry supply chain, much like the lead-free requirements of RoHS,” according to Mikel Williams, chairman of the IPC Government Relations Committee and president and CEO of DDi Corp.

IPC's Validation Services Program is proud to announce that Zentech Manufacturing, Inc. has become the first company to be recertified to the IPC-J-STD-001 Space Addendum QML program. Zentech Manufacturing, Inc. achieved the QML certification three years ago and this year successfully demonstrated the Class 3 level work required for recertification. Not only did Zentech Manufacturing, Inc. become recertified, their wholly owned subsidiary, Colonial Assembly and Design LLC, added the QML certification for IPC/WHMA-A-620, Requirements and Acceptance for Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies, at the class 3 level.

IPC — Association Connecting Electronics Industries® has extended the deadline of their invitation for engineers, researchers, academics, technical experts and industry leaders to submit abstracts for IPC APEX EXPO 2019 to be held at the San Diego Convention Center. The technical conference will take place January 29–31, 2019. The extended deadline for technical conference abstracts is June 29, 2018.

IPC – Association Connecting Electronics Industries®, is announcing an ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) Control certification course for electronics assembly trainers and operators. The courses and certifications will be delivered on the IPC learning management system, IPC EDGE. Together with the EOS/ESD Association, Inc., IPC has developed these standardized ESD training and certification courses for the electronics industry to train operators and trainers on ESD controls and best practices. This online ESD Certification Program allows users to validate their knowledge and skills by passing an exam on ESD principles. For trainers, the ESD certification course was developed with an advanced training program to train instructors, thereby providing the necessary knowledge to help develop an effective ESD training program.
