We are in the process of settign up an SMT line with conveyors. When planning for a 4ft conveyor (or 2 or 3ft for that matter), how mush space should I set aside for this? My boss is telling me to leave 4'6" for a 4ft conveyor. I think this is too

Just make sure you secure them in place once you get them where you want. Brackets fastened by bolts into the floor are the best. I know it may sound trivial, but many companies I visit simply ignore this step and they fight with their conveyors cons

I would agree on keeping the gaps to a minimum but make sure you have enough maintenance access to the pick and place and oven. Pulling a conveyor out with an 1/8th on either side is no fun. Same goes for bolting to the floor, make sure you can unb

I'm with Mike G, We use a 1/4"(1/8" gap on both ends)! We process very short boards from time to time and any more space causes transfer errors. Also, the very short gap helps alot when lining them up. Russ
