We are having continual QuadAlign issues with a 1997 vintage QSP2. Every part on the machine has been replaced� now they want to replace the entire head on gantry one. Does anyone have any experience in this area? Sincerely, Andy Micro Air, Inc.

Did they take you into the real time computer and check the display live image ....to actually see if the quad align is good or not???? What types of errors are you getting???? Can you do a machine- calibration- quadalign and get a good reading????

Paste too thick. Paste not aligned on pad. Part not aligned on pads. Part leads not straight. Oven profile. Paste slump from warm board. Operator before oven thinks they can place IC better than placement machine - so plays IC hockey with part. Oven

I hope that you don't miss that data later on. My suggestion of changing align type to "2" (in the extent data) eliminates the alignment step but leaves the data intact.

Are your pads on the board aligned correctly? I've seen this a lot lately. Pads on opposite sides are not aligned correctly. This causes the part to twist. If you have the Gerber and a way to check it, it's worth the 3 minutes to check.

In the early days Quad machines were fitted with an alignment system that was purchased from a company named Cyberoptics. Quad then developed their own alignment system and called it Quadalign.

What film do people use to check paste alignment on PCB's? We used to use a mylar but it is now obsolete and the last stuff that we ordered was more like cling film.
