Fiducial recognition using laser

Electronics Forum | Sat Apr 03 19:58:53 EST 2004 | Ken

I have used tooling holes and fiucial registration since the late '80's. In fact if your maximum "vision" tolerance is +/- 0.05mm, your in the same ball-park as locating pins. It is true that fiducial registration is more accurate. However, I woul

Yup. It was definitely checking the fiducials as well as the block skip marks and it used to work pretty well. What it did was started at the center of where the fiducial should be and scanned left. When it found a change in contrast it scanned righ

Ken, Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately (or fortunately) I am in Mexico and we make our own PCBs. That is another conversation entirely and another of my fix-it projects but currently we drill the PCBs and align the artwork to the holes visually

Phil, In the considerations you make for choosing an AOI tool, you should check what a vendor delivers today and what will it be able to deliver in the future. As the role of AOI in the SMT production line evolves from "detection" to "prevention"

We have a small 2mm square solid white box silkscreened on each board for badmark recognition. You may be able to do the reverse of putting something like "white out" in a specific area to act as a badmark.

We've been using fids as badmarks on panelized boards, with reverse recognition so that an uncovered fiducial is a good mark. It's worked fine with 1.5mm fiducials but now we've run into problems with a board with 1mm fids and we can NOT get it to wo

I am not completely sure why it would tell you "board will not be populated" and then build it anyway, but if the only difference between the two programs (working one, not working one) is the fiducials are smaller, did you try reducing the search ar
