It's been one hell of a week.... From personal experience, what are the most common causes for embrittlement of the solder joint? I just need to make sure I've got all my bases covered. thanks -Ben

I like the idea of a bulbous sucking device - can I get one with large cups instead of small?

You can have Hakko vacuum pen it has motor for vacuum generation in the pen only which results in having more sucking power. Regards K J Singh

You're correct. Higher resistance with an open makes more sense. Try running your profile on that J6, corner ball. There may be something in the board layout that is sucking the heat from that pad.

Whatever you do, stay far, far away from the Manncorp machines. I happened to tour a facilty that used those, and I sincerely felt for those poor souls who were suck operating those machines.

I'd like to see the rotary vane vacuum which could suck up a column of molten tin/lead 2 inches in diameter...

Make sure your RS232 is screwed in and not loose. Verify your PC is not hanging up and locking up the com port (windows can really suck some times). I would scan-disk and defrag. I bet its not a furnace problem, but a PC problem.

I dont have much choice because the vaccuum is right underneath the whole board, it sucks the board fairly hard. The only thing holding the board is the vacuum and board supports.

All I can say about Alpha and their GOTT-DAMN website is THEY SUCK!! I refuse to register to view product literature... for that reason, Alpha Metals, you won't be looked at for my pb-free paste or bar solder evals.
