We've talked about this previously. Search the fine SMTnet Archives. For instance: http://www.smtnet.com/forums/Index.cfm?CFApp=1&Message_ID=31767

We have done some work with conductive adhesives. The main lesson is: They do not adhere well to solder. * For components, a silver-palladium or gold end termination is recommended. * For substrates, gold over nickel should work well.

Pretty new to this... How long should you expect nozzles to last? I'm noticing that they're continually clogging with solder paste, leading to TONS of bad picks/rejections. How often should I expect to be replacing them, and why are they clogging

CJ, Try contacting your current SnPb supplier. Most, if not all suppliers offer lead free products.

Land grid devices [ie, BCC, LGA, QFN, MicroLeadFrame, etc] are essentially BGA devices with the balls removed and with no solder on the pads. Search the fine SMTnet Archives for background discussion.

It has benefits for solderability too, but costs rather a lot of money to convert your machine & you have to buy in nitrogen on a regular basis (unless you have a generator).

Russ, are you using any reduction on your stencil aperatures? How much for what type of parts? We seem to have to many problems with resistor network aperatures clogging. How well does this paste release from small aperatures?

I like Alpha Metals OM-5100. Very long stencil life with good results. Jerry

I am looking for images of solder paste defects like Past stringing, paste gorging and dog ears. I would also like to have the avi file to show how tombstoning happens in the reflow oven. Thanks Bob
