Alpha Metals sells a paste developed especially for 0201's and 0.5 mm pitch BGA's. I have no idea if if does what it promises, but it might be worth to give it a try. See http://www.alphametals.com/omnixsolder/pdfs/OM_6106.PDF

Try another solder paste manufacturer. Aim out of Rhode Island, Alpha and or Kester. I'm sure that they will be of better assistance than the current supplier. Good Luck

in a thread titled ".5mm bga" there is a reference to a paste by alpha that is no-clean and is supposed to be made specifically for this situation. I suppose that increasing the pad dimension to .012" is out of the question? Russ

When you say "very old" do you mean it's discontinued? My supplier is telling me they still sell it. In this case, the residue is pooling up and clogging up a switch. That's what we are considering too much. Thanks.

We used to use Alpha paste. Every summer we had solder ball problems when the humidity rose. Time frame sounds like this is something to check in to.

You may also want to investigate an Ionic contamination tester. You can check with Alpha, Westek or an equipment broker to find a used tester. If you switch to OA fluxes this will be an important test to perform on a regular basis.

Thank's Pete, I know is an old product but I would know its reflow thermal profile because I'm not sure about it. It's a linear melting or an melting with soak zone ? I haven't data on alphametals.com ...

Hi Cardinal, OK. Thank's. It's all right. What do you about SAC305 ? Do we use a linear melting too ?
