I would expect any half decent machine to place 0603 parts slap bang on target to the typical defined accuracy for such parts on most machines of perhaps ~60 microns or better. Self correction during reflow is IMHO much less pronounced with lead-free

I agree with Mainteneer on this. Depending on the active components, I would check the datasheets of them. Particular groups of components to pay attention to: microphones, microprocessors, transformers, relays, switches. Washing may be in some cases

Josue: Many variables, which you control affect paste height, but paste height is not (or correctly shouldn't be) the issue. Paste volume is where you should focus your attention. Check the archives Good luck. Dave F

In past PCB designs I have cleared all traces from all layers (except pwr/gnd) from fiducial area. It has come to my attention that this is only necessary on the side where fud is placed. Which is the correct method of design using a fidicial?

Mr.Dave.F has given an exhaustive answer. I just want to mention that some attention could be paid to the plating & contaminants on the PCB. We have experienced longer soldering time due to the presence of contaminants on the plated surface.
