Baffling soldering problems!

Electronics Forum | Wed Sep 30 04:36:54 EDT 1998 | Jacqueline Coia

Still cant get a fix to SMD soldering problems, Joints still look strong shiny and well wetted, although when pulled lead still coming away from pad, leaving a dull grainy looking space. This is occuring just after reflow (convection), no other proc

Assuming that your components and PCB's have good solerderabillty and are stored in an air conditioned environment and kept free of contaminants then your problem sounds as though there is insufficient wetting of the component leads due to low temper

parts popping off during reflow

Electronics Forum | Thu Sep 13 11:21:45 EDT 2001 | aldo_maldonado

We've had several instances of parts (1206R, SOT-23) popping off of their location during reflow. Parts placement is OK, paste brick is aligned and compact before oven. But we get random parts off their location just lying somewhere else on the boar

I'm using Kic Profiler and aluminium tape from Kic and thermocouples from Kic. They are good and reliable. I even manage to modify my heller 1088 by adjusting the fix conveyor and re-baffling the oven. Had dropped my 20-22 deg. C delta T down to 4.3

Things wed like to have in a reflow oven are: * Small variation in temperature [+-2*C] from rail-to-rail. * Consistent temperature over time [3+ sigma]. * Thermal inertia / fast recovery to be able to respond to the effects of high mass boards. * Ra

MS2 molten solder surfactant

Let me give some information on the use of MS2. The average wave solder machine will use one liter per five day week per 8 hour shift. The usage can vary + or - 20%. Instead of removing 6 to 10 Lbs of dross every 3 hours you will have to remove 100 M

It just baffles me as to why a vendor would use, of all things, an arrow as a trademark in the first place. Then stick it on the oppossite side of another marker to boot! I swear, sometimes the way some parts are marked, it's like the manufacterer i

I would evalauate: http://www.graphicode.com/GC-PowerPlace - Looks powerful, but also with a quite complex, confusing and messy interface. http://www.numericalinnovations.com/collections/fab-3000-gerber-cam. - Looks very promising, I found it quite n

If you're going to vent through a single exhaust/fan combo, I would recommend spending the money, and getting an HVAC company in there to size the exhaust fan, and duct work. It'll pay dividends for you in the future. We did that at a previous comp

Wave soldering - black residue / bridging

Electronics Forum | Fri Dec 27 12:12:29 EST 2019 | slthomas

As has already been mentioned, black residue is usually either from dross or just a dirty pot, pump, baffles, etc.. I also saw that maaaany years ago in a system that used a flawed oil intermix "feature" but hopefully those systems are long gone.
