We are optimizing our process, it's just that we build to a daily or semi-daily demand schedule of product quantities of 50 er so.

Inspection Methods

For SM inspection, AOI is the only way to go. Per component inspection, it's the best. For in-line operations, split the inspection so that each sequential operator is inspecting the previous stations work. This splits the responsibility and is easi

I was wondering what the ussual cost to have a board build by an C.M. I'd guess they charge by the component but how?

Depends on the size, complexity, quantity, and density of the board. Also depends on the CM and lead time required... Choose 2 or 3 good CMs and send them a pcb for analysis and quote...

Hello, I am new to SMT and I was wondering if someone could give a breif overview of a generic SMT process. Basically what machines are needed and how chips are mounted. More specifically, how the solder is applied. Thank you

Flux charring * Cool-down too long => Coarse grain ps: Some would argue that potentially you'd get greater response in the process forum rather than the design forum

We are currently re-thinking our policy of no-clean and would like more information from users of both process'. Our assemblies exhibit residue and other 'contaminates' and this raises questions at our customer sites. Thanks, John
