Question on Thermal Overstress on BGA Balls During Rework

Electronics Forum | Fri Mar 17 16:58:52 EST 2006 | mikecollier

We are currently struggling with a particularly difficult component selection form our designers. This is a custom BGA, 592 balls, metal cover with a very large bead of adhesive using to retain the cover. We have had significant fallout (greater th

The truth about lead-free and environment

Electronics Forum | Fri Mar 24 11:12:06 EST 2006 | patrickbruneel

Youre a good man Rob and a good patriot, you defend your governments decisions even if they're wrong. Isn't the WEEE directive aimed at preventing electronics ending up in a landfill? This immediately takes away the leaching arguments and is a great

MPM UP2000 Installation

Electronics Forum | Fri Mar 31 11:36:26 EST 2006 | fastek

Smart- The UP2000 is one of the most durable and easiest to operate fully automated printers ever to be designed. I would almost venture to say it was the best printer MPM ever made. Issues with them usually revolved around good or bad maintenance p

LASER SOLDERING

Electronics Forum | Tue Apr 11 12:40:47 EDT 2006 | Chunks

Depending on model and/or series, each one has it's own specific manufacturing guidelines you must meet in order to get a successful solder joint. Then you must couple that to what your soldering process is. Assuming you are talking all thru-hole,

AOI for defect detection at soldering process

Electronics Forum | Fri Apr 21 18:43:23 EDT 2006 | SD

Sorry, I have not read the article. However, I do have five years experience constantly tweaking an AOI system that ran ONE product! The strength of the machine was solder inspection. The biggest problem was component color variation and shadowing

Masking of PWBs prior to conformal coat

Hi BJ, Everyone's favourite answer...it depends! If the volume if large, masking boots will save you both, time and money in the long run. Custom boots are relatively expensive to buy, but they pay themselves over time by savings on masking tape. ma

First of all, do not use kapton tape! It tends to cause a dewetting effect around the tape. A call to Humiseal will explain why. There's not really a blanket answer to your question.... Removing cured liquid mask can often result in a fillet ef

Juki vs Mydata... again...

Electronics Forum | Tue May 02 23:34:26 EDT 2006 | Frank

The 2060RE model that I have can do an 18"x20" board. I think the Mydata can do larger. Juki did tell me that next year they will release a machine that will do larger boards but didn't specify on how big. The 2060RE can do 0201 up to 74mm square

There is a ISO Standard 14644-1 Class Limits, but I don't know if if this is applicable in the "so callled" SMT standard production scenaraio and if so, what class would it be? I hope that some other nice guys will correct me, or have i totally lost

Is anyone using K100 bar solder? Why or why not?

Electronics Forum | Thu May 11 08:27:15 EDT 2006 | timnop

We will be receiving our lead free wave solder machine soon and I have been doing a lot of reading here. I've seen many dicussions about SAC vs. SN100C for wave applications and am leaning heavily towards the SN100C for my process. I haven't seen any
