Allowable ramp rate

Electronics Forum | Tue Dec 18 15:05:58 EST 2001 | blnorman

What is the maximum allowable thermal ramp rate for wave solder. We have a "short" machine used for selective soldering. To get the boards up to temp, we need to exceed our normal 2C/sec. Are there any IPC documents governing this process? Anyon

SMT hand soldering on HASL or Ni-Au boards?

Electronics Forum | Tue Apr 03 22:03:18 EDT 2001 | davef

With friends like you, who needs enemies? Id guess that the perceived benefits of flat pads for your 20 mil pitch and below components counter-balance the higher cost, gold being a solder pot contaminant, limited solder mask compatibility, potentia

Insufficient Wetting to Lands

Electronics Forum | Sun Nov 24 09:54:24 EST 2002 | davef

On a HASL board that has poor wetting on the pad, consider looking further downstream in the process than your assembly shop. For instance, take a look at the bare boards. Look for solder mask bleed onto the pads. This will show-up on the outside

Wave Pallets

Electronics Forum | Tue Jan 24 07:43:45 EST 2006 | Chunks

Q: If you do not use a selective wave pallet does this not leave the possibility of solder flowing up thru the Via's on the board? A: No. Your board house can cover your vias with solder resist. Your board house can plug the vias. You can cover t

First time with reflow oven....

Electronics Forum | Tue Feb 11 22:59:33 EST 2003 | davef

As others have stated, there are a few other things in the aveage assembly shop that are much more scary that a reflow oven. For instance, we have a wonderful wave soldering machine and w've been doing that kind of stuff for tens of years, but every

Re: Soldering long lead thru hole parts

Electronics Forum | Thu Dec 09 18:21:20 EST 1999 | Boca

Mike, Russ is right, no 'normal' wave machine will solder PCB's with 1" long lead length. I have seen waves modified to clear up to 5/8" leads, but the deeper the wave the uglier things get. They get uglier in that a lot more dross is produced, con
