BGA Reliability

Do you have any picture or reference how can we determine black pad or plating contamination. I have heard about a lot of problems regarding BGA's and normally these components are only replaced or heat it and that's it ,after that the boards are wor

PCBA IC Component rework

Electronics Forum | Tue Aug 31 07:51:45 EDT 2004 | Six Sigma QE

Our supplier is suggesting the 'removal and replacement' of programmable IC components to reduce cost. The removed components will be placed on other boards as well. Is there a risk in reworking programable IC components. Thank you.

Remeber Do not use any probes or fixtures to hold the lead down while soldering or rework .....this is a bad idea. I would remove the component and replace or gently push the lead back into coplanarity and resolder. This all can be done at most rewor

Lost Components

Wondering if anyone has information on percentage of components that we can expect to "lose" during our SMT process. We are new to SMT, using QUAD machines and feel we are losing to many parts during our process. We are spending a lot of touch-up ti

Ben, Thanks for the input on the apertures and thickness. The side two problem, is not reflow. We have no trouble with reflow. The problem is that our product is high precision crystal oscillators. In order to get the precision needed, we have t

Determining cost of rework is based on usage and application. Photonic soldering saves an average of 5 minutes per rework site in process time and may save a significant amount of labor. Depending on volume, and specifics on the application, the cos
