Looking for BGA rework equipment

Electronics Forum | Thu Aug 24 11:29:24 EDT 2006 | ericg

I would much rather go with new, but the price seemed to be high for management. I'm thinking up to 20K. I have seen new machines for this price but Im not sure if they have the quality I am looking for.

Do yo have to bake unused bare boards or just Vacuum Pack?

Our sympathies about the ENIG boards. B:) So, you cut the end off the barrier bag, take 200 boards, heat seal the end of the bag and restock it, build the 200 boards and ship them, right?

Mr Jarvis One experience with black pad makes you promise never to use ENIG again. It's nice that you have a supplier that has avoided that problem.

We tend to screen paste to the BGA ball. This is quite effective although the repeatability of screening is not always great. Does anyone else use this method and how or have you managed to overcome this repeatability issue.

We use tacky flux, we just make sure the left over solder on the board is really flat, it kinda replaces paste, although there's probably less solder left then there would be paste.

Now how did you know we were wave soldering BGAs onto a board that goes into a karaoke machine? Thanks for everyone's input. We currently use tacky flux, but I beleieve we will also look into screening paste onto the BGA as well.

I've used those kapton, stick-on "stencils" a few times. Worked well for us. Toughest part is getting the kapton pattern in the correct place. Adding paste and placing the part is easy.

We use "tacky flux" for most BGA replacements. We have found that we sometimes need a microstencil for paste on Micro BGA's. CL

For FR4 ENIG PCB: 1. In a normal condition, what is the broken location after BGA peeled off?(FR4 layer or Ni layer or solder ball) 2. What is the soldering acceptance criteria for BGA in CMK?
