Don't count out a wave pallet. if the led's are not an extremely tall part a pallet might be just the thing for running something like this at a higher volume.

They do make smt leds that mount topside over a hole and shine down ya know. Then just kapton tape the holes and wave it.

Rohm make them & call them Backfires: http://www.rohm.com/products/databook/led/pdf/sml-812.pdf The only problem is on some applications you may have to use light pipes.

We are looking at purchasing either an Essemtec FLX2020 or Fritsch placeall600 pick & place machine. Just wondering if anyone has any comments (Good or bad) concerning these two.

Hmmm. Judging from the overwhelming response, I'd say these pick and place machines are not very popular.

There's no real point in them now as for not a lot more you can get an I-pulse, Samsung, Mydata or Assemblion machine, or a good second user machine for the same or less.

Just out of curiosity - is it possible to enter placement positions in interactive mode (using camera image) on the GSM1 series? - Deni

I have two gsm1's and I don't believe the current software can do this. Assuming you are not importing cad data, that would be the only way.

250-260ish seems a little on the high side ? Depending on the board density and components 230-245 should suffice. Again time above is usually preferred between 30-90secs but again it really depends on the PCB Dave
