Wave flux and profiling

Electronics Forum | Mon Dec 18 13:00:47 EST 2006 | grantp

Hi, We have a white residue, which is visible, and we would like to have the produce clean as it's a PCI card, so users see the PCB. I am wondering if we need to install a cleaning stage to the line for these kinds of products. Can anyone give som

Yikes!! In-line cleaning, to clean cosmetic and benign residues (from a NO-CLEAN) flux... You sure you can't switch fluxes? Another variable with residues is the solder mask. Depending on mask type (glossy, matte, semi-gloss, or semi-matte), will

Hi, Yes, I would hate to resort to cleaning, but the product must be clean. We have been using palettes to keep most of the flux off the PCB, but there is still residue around the connectors. Does anyone suggest a good no clean flux to use with le

Any decent flux would volatise off with the heat of the wave unless absorbed into the solder mask. Test this by trying to clean in alcohol or common solvent aerosol, if it does not clean then it is probably Mineral Salts from solder mask fillers. Ano

Hello Mark, I wish it were that simple so I could direct you to a particular manufacturer and stencil cleaner model. Unfortunately, there are several issues complicating the process of cleaning all these applications in one machine. First and fore

Yer not making this easy. What kind of flux? If no-clean flux, what controls are you using to assure you are: * Applying the correct amount of flux? * Properly activating the flux? If water washable flux, talk to us about your cleaning methods and

No clean pastes leave more flux residues. These can result in void formation and inhibtion of underfill curing. Selection of an underfill that is compatible with the flux residue is important. One company that has written about the effect of flux

Kerryn, It's the first time I hear someone who needs an automated inspection machine to check the cleanliness of stencils. Why not improve on the cleaning method itself. I use ultrasonic batch cleaner. It takes 3 minutes to clean a stencil, 2 minutes

Haven't done any studies other than how clean can you get a stencil. I would clean 'em and inspect the apertures and see if you have any residues. If so, I would clean again the amount left would be so miniscule that I don't beleive it would cause
