The first thing that I would do is contact the smock manufacturer and ask them for advice on testing the smocks. ESD FROM A TO Z 2nd ed. (Kolyer) states that: smocks should have a resistivity of less than 10^12/sq and must not shed steel fibers.

Our co. is thinking of moving to smocks, but we aren't there yet. However, I can understand why we might want to. Have you ever seen the static buildup on a wool sweater or a polar fleece vest after rubbing against a chair all day in a cold dry pra

At the s#$t-hole Contract Manufacturer where I work (name with-held), the motherf&ckers told us to wash them useless pieces of sh&% once a week, and "don't use fabric softener" otherwise you ruin the integrity of the faraday cage. Then they got on th

Don't forget to buy the "Lead free heelstraps, smocks, wriststraps, hairnets and repair table" too. They cost twice as much, but you have to have them! We use regular wick and it works well with the LF solder. Vendor even ageed there was no need t

Why does everyone tell me smocks will prevent ESD. They're not grounded, so how can they bleed or prevent ESD? They may not cause any ESD, but they sure don't come close to a heel strap or ESD shoes. OK, maybe from a "management" standpoint it mak

Does this bring back some awful memories! Back in the mid-80's I worked for a little company called Solectron (yes they were small back then). They wanted everyone to wear smocks and I fought that one come hell and high water. It was all for show as

Ashok: Haven't unloaded that ESD Coordinator job yet have you? Smocks: Don't work, they're hot, and no one likes them, but they put up with them (sort of). Now if they knew they didn't work, all the customer PR in the world wouldn't help. The bi
