Lead Free Stencil Design

Electronics Forum | Thu Jul 14 16:08:07 EDT 2005 | russ

Stencil thickness is related to PCB design and is not related to paste type. If you release with a 8 mil stencil then use an 8 mil stencil. Of course there are pastes that release bteer than other and what not but use area and aspect ratios to dete

Td or Decomposition Temperature (the temperature that the epoxy actualy starts to break down) should be greater than 330*C for lead-free. Search the fine SMTnet Archives for more on Td.

Hybrid reflow profile

Follow your component supplier recommendations. For instance: Xilinx says their lead-free alloy for their BGA spheres is SnAgCu, and liquidous is 217*C and they want you to peak at 230 - 235*C for good wetting according to their reflow guidelines.

How do you identify Lead Free Boards from Sn/Pb?

Electronics Forum | Wed Oct 05 11:45:30 EDT 2005 | chunks

Not knowing your company, I would treat LF boards as a new part number. All boards are sold in lots, so controlling both part numbers at the same time would be easy. May add to your inventory but beats mixing.

How well would a 3 zone oven work? I need to do lead free and have heard that 5 zones or more will work the best. The problem is I don't have the work load to justify a large oven. Any advice? Jay

Help!!

Wetting with lead free at wave is a bit different. You may need to increase your flux parameter to gain top side wetting. May get rid of the voids too.
