Re: Plastic fingers for wave solder machines

Electronics Forum | Wed Feb 02 17:16:44 EST 2000 | Larry

Boca, We mix them with titanium fingers, been running them for 6 months with no problems with heat. They break off rather then mangle like the titaniums, which can be a good thing! Do I like them? Sure! I found they were 1/2 the price as titaniums an

Mike, I found the easiest way around your issue is to get your parts in T&R rather then trying to modify your machine. Some part manufacturers may be unwilling to T&R your part but there is always a ready and willing company whom would be happy to d

5K$. Of course I remind myself that when these machines were designed BGA's didn't exist. I had no choice but to purchase this option as a new machine was out of the question and I place around 15,000 BGA's per month on this line. So the ROI was v

Solder balls after wave soldering

Electronics Forum | Fri Jan 28 05:06:01 EST 2000 | Istvn Dominik

Hi! I have problems with the SMD boards during wave soldering. Mainly between the pins of the SOICs there are small solder balls. Maybe somebody had the same problem and could solve it. Please give me some ideas what causes this problem and how it

Istvan, One possible reason for this is that you are using a water soluble flux in your wave solder machine. If you are and the boards are not pre heated long enough, the water in the flux does not evaporate before hitting the wave. When the water

Hi, The major reason is that the flux is still "wet", you should fix the temp. profile (specialy preheat zone) so the evaporation of flux carriers will be better (anyway not to much !). Recommended: 1st preheat zone heating to ~70C , 2nd&3rd prehea

One thing I've found that will create that white residue is when moisture comes in contact with that flux. 1. Verify that you are not introducing any moisture with the compressed air supply at the foam fluxer. 2. Replace the flux and clean the flu

Instead of spending 15k on a spray fluxer spend a little bit on your foam tower. The narrower the foam head the less flux being applied. You might have to modify the foam tower but if works. I would switch fluxes though there are others out there tha

Re: High temperature solder paste for gold plated MCMs

Tuan - How about Sn/0.7Cu? It's M.P. is 227 and it's readily available. If the leads are Gold plated you might consider pre-tinning them. If you need a higher temp alloy any of the major solder companies can help - I suggets you start with Ind

Tuan: Consider Sn 96.5/Ag 3.5 or Sn10/PB88/Ag02 also. As Glenn says, you had better get rid of that gold or you will never have a shiney connection. Not that a shiney connection means anything about the quality or reliability of your soldering. M
